「お正月」の英語あれこれ
今回は「お正月」にまつわる、知ってそうで知らない英語表現を復習しておきましょう。外国人に説明するときに役立つかもしれません。

初詣
文字通りの英語では
first visit of the year to a shinto shrine
年の最初の神社へのお参り
という感じです。ちなみにお寺へ行ってもＯＫということです。
もう少し気を利かせた言い方をすれば
annual ritual known as hatsumode
毎年恒例の初詣という儀式
traditional hatsumode pilgrimage
伝統的な初詣という巡礼
といった表現も見られます。
