skepticism - 東京五輪の禁煙化に懐疑論

slepticism.png 来年のオリンピックに向けて、東京は公共エリアの禁煙化を推進していますが、それに疑問が生じているそうです！

今回はちょっと難しい、でもお堅い文章にはよく登場する skepticism を見ておきましょう。
まず、ちゃんと発音できますか？
【sképtəsìzm】（スケプティスィズム）のような音ですよ！

もともとは次の形容詞から来ています。
　skeptical　　懐疑的な、疑いを抱いた
これに ～ism OO主義と変化して
skepticism になります。
ちなみに、人になると
　skeptic　　懐疑論者です。

The 2020 organizing committee has indicated a policy of applying blanket smoking bans on all areas of the competition venues during the quadrennial sporting event, including the new National Stadium in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward.
２０２０年東京五輪・パラリンピック組織委員会は、東京新宿区の新国立競技場をはじめとした競技会場の敷地内を全面禁煙とする方針を示している。

Genkichi Enomoto, the 72-year-old secretary-general of the Kannai neighborhood association, which carries out cleanings at areas around the stadium, said, “There may be people smoking outside smoking areas and those discarding cigarettes as litter.”
周辺の清掃活動をしている関内地区連合町内会の榎本源吉事務局長（７２）は、「喫煙所の外で吸う人やポイ捨てが横行するかもしれない」と述べた。

たばこには中毒性があります。ですから、いくら禁止しても吸う人は吸うのです。
千代田区でも路上喫煙の人、相変わらず見かけます。
ぜひ blanket ban を徹底していただきたいと思います。
