この機会に「記念列車」を運行する鉄道会社が増えています。
今回はこれに関する記事の中から「多くの、たくさんの、数えきれない」などの数量表現の英語をさらっておきましょう。
myriad
無数の
みなさんは「たくさんの」といえば
many や a lot of あたりを思いつくでしょう。
違うものを考えても
several や a number of
あたりではないでしょうか。
さらに多くのバリエーションを覚えておくと
大人っぽい表現や、感情をこめた表現も可能です。
まず、 myriad は形容詞で「無数の」を示すので

などのようにも使えますし、名詞として使って
a myriad of... 無数の～
という形でもよく見かけます。
1語の形容詞で「たくさん」を表す単語は他にも
uncountable 数えきれない
numerous 非常に多くの
unlimited 無制限の、無尽蔵の

など、いろいろありますよね。
これらはどちらかというと書き言葉で、
口語的かつ大げさな「たくさん」は
tons of ものすごい（数・量）の
で決まりだと思います。

Outside Tokyo, Chichibu Railway Co. will run a train led by a C58 steam locomotive between Kumagawa and Mitsumineguchi in Saitama Prefecture with a special sign reading "Thank you Heisei" on April 30. It will change the sign to "Congratulations Reiwa" the following day.
