今回は「寒波」などに使える一つの表現として、spell の使い方を見ておきましょう。
spell 一続きの時間・一定の期間
spell にはこのような意味があるのをご存じでしたか？いわゆる「スペリング」の spell だけではないのです。
このことから、cold spell = 寒さが集中的に続く期間 ということで「寒波」にあたります。
また、形を変えて
a spell of cold weather
としても「寒波」と同じ意味で使うことができるでしょう。
